Reverend Billy and the Stop Shopping Choir - Savitri D, director
Revolt of the Golden Toad Bay Area Tour, April 24 - 27, 2013

EXTINCT TOADS INVADE CLIMATE-KILLER CHASE BANK
is the tabloid headline the singer-activists of the Church of Stop Shopping are pursuing these days. The Golden Toad, from the cloud forests of mountainous Central America, was killed off 25 years ago by climate-change related factors such as fungal infection, pesticides and drought.

The (secular) church dons the toad masks before entering JPMorgan Chase buildings, exorcising ATMs and conversing with bankers. (The study from BankTrack.org holds that Chase is the top financier of industrial and mining projects that emit CO2 gas into the atmosphere.)

The tour mixes book-readings, direct action, and concert performance. 21 performances are coming from NY. The Revolt of the Golden Toad Tour:

"It's art. It's an act. It's almost a religion." -- New York Times

"You are not just the run-of-the-mill, pomaded faux evangelist that I thought you were. The End of the World is so astonishingly brilliant that it almost hurts to read it, wise and loving and full of yearning..." -- Barbara Ehrenreich

Larger Than Life: a tribute to Pepe Ozan and screening of the Eye of Rudra

Pepe Ozan was a creative force that touched thousands of people, and he loved his San Francisco community dearly. Join us for a tribute to a life well lived. On Friday, April 26th, we will celebrate Pepe and his inestimable influence on us all. This will happen at the Joe Goode Annex at Project Artaud, the place Pepe called home for many years.

We will be screening the documentary The Eye of Rudra, which features Pepe and the creative community that gave their all to make his vision a reality at Burning Man in 1998. There will be music by many stellar musicians that knew and loved Pepe, and other expressions of love for the man. Pepe was a fixture in many different circles of Bay Area life, and we hope to bring those circles together in this event.

This will be a donation based event to offset costs. Thank you to Project Artaud and Joe Goode for your generosity.

For a different twist on celebrating Cinco de Mayo weekend, join Burning Man Project for Cinco De Make-O and bring out the Maker in you at a FREE day of ‘maker’ workshops on Saturday, May 4th from 1 – 3 p.m. Learn how to create your own solar system or make beautiful music (or both!) at the Burning Man headquarters. The ‘Maker’ workshops are part of a series sponsored by Burning Man Project, which cover areas including the arts, education and civic engagement.

Small Scale Solar 101 will present an overview of small and portable solar technology at 1 p.m. and include solar terminology, how it can be used for art, tricks to limit power usage and more. “Making Music with Found Objects” workshop will also be presented at 2 p.m. If attending, participants should bring discarded METAL objects such as cans, pipes, car parts, kitchen utensils, etc. Come and be amazed what can be done with common household objects and the right kind of foam and mallet to create shakers and metallophones. The workshop will conclude by making music as a group.
